DOUES, ITALY: The Valle d’Aosta is a fantastic area in the north of Italy in the middle of the Alps. The valley borders directly on Switzerland and France and has the highest and most beautiful mountains in Europe, Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. The valley is a wonderful destination for hikes to the peaks of the mountains or for exploring the numerous historical sites dating back to Roman times of over 2000 years ago.
This time we rented a house at 1750m altitude near the village Doues. With only approx. 60$ cost per night this was unbelievably cheap. The house has a unique view to the city of Aosta and is almost completely remote. At the same time, the house is equipped with everything one needs. Unfortunately there is no direct link but the house is the Chez Paolo in Doues (Aosta Valley).
Abandoned Mountain Pasture House In The Italian Aosta Valley ?? – E10
DOUES, ITALY: From the terrace of our house in the Valle d’Aosta we could see two abandoned houses at an altitude of 1800 m, visited by nothing but cows. The buildings in the Italian Alps appear differently than, for example, in Switzerland. This is probably because they are quite old or old techniques are still used. Typically, loose stones are stacked on top of each other with cement. The ruins now called for a small inspection to perhaps see how people lived at this height and under these conditions decades and centuries ago.

The Vosges are full of historic buildings and the Saint Ulrich ruin is one of them. The ruin is located not far from the small town of Ribeauville on a hill with a beautiful view over the Rhine Valley.

Actually, we wanted to go to our garden. From the garden we always saw a castle on a mountain. The castle is the castle Teck in the federal state Baden Württemberg in Germany. So we decided to stop by and see if a trip there would be worth it. From the parking lot it was not then nevertheless so far and we went spontaneously the right steep ascent to the castle.
Tour Map
In the course of time I have accumulated a number of places visited around the world. This website is primarily there to document these places for myself and to help a little with the memory. Mainly photos will be found here, but since 2018 also videos. In addition there are some travelogues, which were unfortunately never really finished, but will be completed in the future. The website starts with a tour to Florida in 2009. Through official visits I visited far more places than are shown on the map and were marked. However, I at least marked the most important places. For some there are no travel reports, photos or videos because the length of stay was simply too short or I had no desire to document something. The following places or regions were visited by me and have some content on this site:
