After the voyage of discovery to the south, I decided to go on a voyage of discovery to the west the following day. Before sunrise, I made my way through the Blue Mountains in just 9 degrees and fog to the other side of the mountains, where I passed through Bathurst, finally reaching the sun and spring in Orange City and finally Condobolin.
A road trip from Sydney to Condobolin takes you from the bustling streets of New South Wales’ capital into the heart of rural Australia, where wide open skies, golden fields, and friendly country towns define the journey. Covering just over 460 kilometers, the drive can be completed in about six hours, but it is best enjoyed slowly, with time to stop at landmarks, explore regional towns, and experience the contrasts between city life and Australia’s agricultural heartland.
