This hike was to Bad Dürkheim in Reinland Pfalz in Germany at the end of 2021. First it went uphill through forests and then in a circle back to Bad Dürkheim. In between, some restaurants should actually be open in the summer, but of course everything was closed during our visit. Special highlights were a castle ruin, a monastery ruin and a graduation house.

Just before Christmas, a 16km tour took us into the Palatinate Forest to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in Rhineland/Palatinate in 2021. Neustadt is quite an old town with a historic old town. We hiked through the nearby forest around a small mountain to the top and then back to the town.
In this video, I go on a hike around Neustadt an der Weinstraße, a lively town at the heart of the German Wine Route (Deutsche Weinstraße). Nestled between the rolling vineyards of the Palatinate region and the forested slopes of the Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest), Neustadt is an ideal base for exploring nature, culture, and tradition on foot. Hiking here offers the perfect balance between scenic landscapes and historic atmosphere.

Winter in 2021 was getting closer and closer and it was once again an opportunity to walk around a bit in beautiful autumnal weather with lots of bright colors. This hike led us again in de area Stromberg in Baden Württemberg in Germany on a route of about 17 km through fields and forest, as always in a circle.
In this video, I go on a hike through the Stromberg region, a hilly area in Baden-Württemberg known for its mixture of forests, vineyards, meadows, and small villages. The Stromberg forms part of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park, a protected area that combines natural beauty with centuries of human tradition. Hiking here feels like discovering a landscape where culture and nature are woven closely together.

As I said before somewhere, I did not know how many castle ruins are in the area. For this reason I went this time again to the ruin Fleckenstein in Alsace and from there I walked to the nearby ruins Loewenstein and Hohenburg. Unfortunately almost nothing of Loewenstein has survived the times. But from the ruins of Hohenburg Castle you can still clearly see the former mightiness.

This time we visited another ruin in the Palatinate Forest during our Sunday excursion. The ruin Drachenfels was a robber baron castle until the 15th century. It is assumed that the castle was built before the 10th century. Due to problems with the robber knights the castle was finally destroyed after it was captured by surrounding troops. Today you can hardly see anything, because many stones were removed and houses were built with them in the village. Nevertheless, after 500 years there are still clear traces visible, which give an idea of its former mightiness.
