🚶 Hiking Around Bad Bergzabern | Forests, Vineyards & Villages

Bad Bergzabern is located in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany and is the warmest city in Germany. It is located in the upper Rhine Valley between the Palatinate Forest and the Northern Black Forest on the border with France near the Vosges Mountains. In this hike, we walked about 20 km around this city through vineyards, fields and forests in the winter of early 2022.

🍇 Bad Dürkheim Hike | Exploring the Wine Route on Foot

This hike was to Bad Dürkheim in Reinland Pfalz in Germany at the end of 2021. First it went uphill through forests and then in a circle back to Bad Dürkheim. In between, some restaurants should actually be open in the summer, but of course everything was closed during our visit. Special highlights were a castle ruin, a monastery ruin and a graduation house.

✨ Neustadt Hike | Discovering the Heart of the German Wine Route

Just before Christmas, a 16km tour took us into the Palatinate Forest to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in Rhineland/Palatinate in 2021. Neustadt is quite an old town with a historic old town. We hiked through the nearby forest around a small mountain to the top and then back to the town.

In this video, I go on a hike around Neustadt an der Weinstraße, a lively town at the heart of the German Wine Route (Deutsche Weinstraße). Nestled between the rolling vineyards of the Palatinate region and the forested slopes of the Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest), Neustadt is an ideal base for exploring nature, culture, and tradition on foot. Hiking here offers the perfect balance between scenic landscapes and historic atmosphere.

🏰 Castle Ruin Blankenhorn | Exploring History in the Stromberg Hills

One of the first excursions after the winter break in the crisis in Germany was to the Blankenhorn castle ruins.

In this video, I visit the castle ruin Blankenhorn, a hidden historic site in the Stromberg region of Baden-Württemberg. Surrounded by vineyards, forests, and gentle hills, the ruins stand as a reminder of the medieval past that once shaped the Kraichgau and Stromberg landscapes. Visiting Blankenhorn is not about seeing a perfectly preserved fortress—it is about exploring a quiet ruin where history, nature, and atmosphere come together.

🍷 Rommersheim in Autumn | Hiking Germany’s Wine Landscape

It is crisis time and normally I would be back in Australia in spring. Since this is not possible at the moment, other activities have to be undertaken. After the 20 km hike through the Taunus Mountains along the Limes, this time I went to Rommersheim in Rhineland Palatinate. Again we went on a round trip, this time surprisingly again through a wine-growing landscape. The area of Rommersheim was already inhabited 2000 years ago and is quite interesting to look at during this 10 km hike.
