In Cappadocia we decided to stay two nights, so we had a full day to go on excursion in the area. The day started with an excursion to the underground caves. We eventually continued with a visit to Kayasehir Fortress, some more smaller ancient rock dwellings and finally two more rock castles.
Cappadocia is one of the most magical places on Earth – a land of fairy chimneys, ancient cave dwellings, underground cities, and skies filled with hot-air balloons. Another must-see is Uçhisar Castle, a towering rock formation at the highest point in Cappadocia. Climbing to the top rewards you with panoramic views across the entire region – from the valleys below to the distant volcanic peaks. Nearby, the town of Ürgüp is known for its cave hotels and wine production, while Avanos is famous for pottery, a tradition that goes back thousands of years thanks to the red clay of the Kızılırmak River. Watching local artisans shape clay into beautiful ceramics is a fascinating experience.
Cappadocia is not only about sights – it’s also about unique experiences. Staying in a cave hotel is something every visitor should try. These hotels, carved into the rock, combine modern comfort with ancient tradition, creating a cozy and unforgettable atmosphere.
