We started this day by looking for a market. Unfortunately, there was only one vegetable market, but the prices were very low. On the way to Didim, we visited some other ruined cities, some of which were quite well preserved and where excavations were taking place.

Dalyan is best known for its Lycian Rock Tombs, carved high into the cliffs thousands of years ago, overlooking the river with timeless majesty. A boat ride along the Dalyan River offers the best view of these incredible tombs and is the perfect way to start our journey.
Another must-see in Dalyan is Iztuzu Beach, also called Turtle Beach. This long stretch of golden sand is not only stunning but also an important nesting site for endangered loggerhead turtles. Watching the waves crash onto the shore, while knowing this place is part of a vital conservation effort, makes it all the more special.
From Dalyan, we hit the road heading north along the Aegean coast. The drive itself is an experience, with winding roads, breathtaking views of the sea, and small villages where time seems to move a little slower. Along the way, you’ll pass olive groves, pine forests, and rolling hills that create the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable road trip.
One of the first major stops is Marmaris, a lively port city known for its marina, bustling bazaar, and stunning bay. Even a short visit offers plenty to enjoy – a walk along the promenade, a taste of fresh seafood, or a quick coffee by the water. If you have more time, Marmaris is also a gateway to nearby islands and hidden coves.
Continuing north, the road brings us to Bodrum, one of Turkey’s most famous coastal towns. Known for its whitewashed houses, ancient castle, and vibrant nightlife, Bodrum offers a blend of history and modern luxury. The Castle of St. Peter, built by the Knights of St. John, dominates the harbor and houses the fascinating Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Strolling through Bodrum’s narrow streets or relaxing in one of its chic cafés is a highlight of the journey.
Leaving Bodrum, we continue toward our final destination: Didim. Along the way, smaller coastal towns and hidden beaches invite you to take detours and explore. The charm of a road trip is the freedom to stop wherever you like – maybe for a swim in a quiet bay, or to enjoy a traditional Turkish tea in a small roadside café.
Arriving in Didim, the journey ends in a town that combines history, beaches, and authentic Turkish charm. A short drive away are the ancient cities of Miletus and Priene, each offering incredible ruins and a glimpse into Turkey’s rich past.
Of course, Didim is also about relaxation. The famous Altinkum Beach – meaning “Golden Sand” – is the perfect spot to unwind after the drive. With turquoise waters, soft sand, and a lively promenade full of restaurants and bars, it’s the ideal place to celebrate the end of the road trip.
