Travelogue of a journey through Morocco in January 2011.
Prompted by a spontaneous idea, a flight and a hostel in Marrakech were booked cheaply in November. Everything else was left open and decided on the spot. The destination was meant to be inexpensive, warm, and culturally diverse.
Unfortunately, the journey had to be made alone, which comes with both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, there is no need to consider anyone else’s sensitivities or plans; on the other, there is no one to share extraordinary experiences and impressions with.
The route led from Marrakech via Essaouira, Agadir, Inezgane, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, Legzira, Tiznit again, Tafraout, Tiznit once more, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Mhamid, back to Zagora, then Tazarine, Merzouga, Errachidia, Boumalne, Ouarzazate, and finally back to Marrakesh.
Unfortunately, I had to reconstruct this travelogue without my original travel notes, as I somehow lost them. As a result, many details are missing—such as exact times, locations, costs, and particular events—even though I had carefully written notes for hours every day. I can only hope that they will resurface somewhere, allowing me to revise and supplement this account that was written largely from memory.
