Bad Bergzabern is located in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany and is the warmest city in Germany. It is located in the upper Rhine Valley between the Palatinate Forest and the Northern Black Forest on the border with France near the Vosges Mountains. In this hike, we walked about 20 km around this city through vineyards, fields and forests in the winter of early 2022.

In this video, I go on a hike around Obersteinbach, a small village in the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park in northeastern France. This quiet corner of the North Vosges is known for its sandstone cliffs, dense forests, castle ruins, and peaceful valleys. Hiking here combines natural beauty with history, offering trails that feel both remote and full of stories from the past.
Obersteinbach is a typical Alsatian village, surrounded by green hills and forested slopes. Its location makes it a perfect starting point for hikes into the Vosges du Nord. The area is less crowded than other parts of Alsace, which gives the trails a calm and almost hidden quality. Walking here feels like stepping into a different pace of life, far from busy towns and cities.

A Sunday in January with quite moderate weather invited to a small trip by car. France is open for fully vaccinated and so I drove after a long time once again in the Northern Vosges. The Northern Vosges are opposite the Black Forest on the French side of the Upper Rhine Valley. The special thing about this region is the turbulent history and the many defense works from the first and second world war. In fact, there are hundreds of often huge bunkers and thousands of small bunkers scattered in the fields.
