That day I had a little trip around the Gold Coast area. It was my first time in the Tamborine Mountain area and my second time in Springbrook National Park.
Tamborine Mountain, part of the Scenic Rim region in southeast Queensland, is one of Australia’s most beloved nature escapes. Rising to about 525 meters above sea level, the mountain is actually the remnant of an ancient shield volcano that erupted around 22 million years ago. Today, it is a lush plateau surrounded by subtropical rainforest, charming villages, waterfalls, and sweeping lookouts that draw both locals and tourists in search of cool mountain air and natural beauty.

Springbrook National Park is located in Queensland at the Border to New South Wales in Australia. The park is part of the so-called hinterland, i.e. the more mountainous part off the coast of the Gold Coast. The park is at a relatively high altitude, which at first glance doesn’t seem like it. Situated at an altitude of almost 1000 metres, the fauna and flora is very different from the lower areas. The park has a sub-tropical climate and a humid rainforest. There are many streams, rivers and waterfalls in the area. On this tour, I walked an approx. 14 km circular route from the plateau, down into the valley and then up again.

It extends from the New South Wales border in the south to the southern suburbs of Brisbane in the north and encompasses a diverse range of landscapes, including sandy ocean beaches, coastal dunes, estuarine waterways, lowland plains, and mountainous hinterland areas. The region is one of Australia’s most significant urban and tourism centers, with a population exceeding half a million residents and a strong emphasis on coastal living, recreation, and service-based industries.
