Although I have travelled a lot in Australia, I have never had the opportunity to see anything more of the Sydney area. To close this gap, I got a rental car and drove after a journey to the west the day before in direction south along the coast. The journey went through the Royal National Park, Wollongong, Port Kembla, some smaller towns and finally to Jarvis Bay.
In this video, I go on a road trip from Sydney to Jervis Bay, one of the most beautiful coastal destinations in New South Wales. Located about three hours south of Sydney, Jervis Bay is famous for its crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and abundant wildlife. Arriving in Jervis Bay, the landscape changes dramatically. The bay is sheltered, with calm turquoise waters and some of the whitest sand beaches in the world, including the famous Hyams Beach. Walking on the soft sand, looking out over the still waters, it’s easy to see why Jervis Bay has become such a popular escape for both locals and travelers.
The bay is also part of the Booderee National Park, an area managed jointly with the local Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community. Here, forests meet the sea, and hiking trails lead to secluded beaches, cliffs, and cultural sites. Cycling, bushwalking, and picnicking are popular activities, while the waters of the bay are perfect for swimming, kayaking, and snorkeling.
Wildlife is another highlight of Jervis Bay. The calm waters are home to dolphins that can often be seen from the shore or on boat tours, and in the right season, migrating whales pass close by the coastline. On land, kangaroos are a common sight, especially around campsites and open grassy areas. This combination of marine and terrestrial wildlife makes Jervis Bay a paradise for nature lovers.
